Who says cocktails are a warm-weather drink? We love whipping up a Winter-inspired drink as the colder weather rolls in! This delicious Vanilla Chai Old Fashioned is great for serving at dinner parties, or for relaxing on a Friday night. Perfect for making in bulk, you can easily mix it ahead of time to whip up a quick drink in a moments notice.
Ingredients:
- 4 Chai tea bags
- 1 oz Chai tea syrup
- 1/3 cup of maple syrup
- 1 cinnamon and star anise
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 bottle of sparkling water
- 1 dash of bitters, orange
- 2 oz of bourbon
- 1 oz of lemon juice
Instructions:
Chai Syrup: In a pot, bring 1 cup of water to a boil. Remove from the heat and add in the chai tea bags. Cover, and steep for 10-15 minutes. Remove the tea bags and add in the maple syrup. Bring this to a boil over high heat for 3-5 minutes, then remove. Stir in the vanilla, and let it cool. This can be made in advance and kept in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
Old Fashioned: Using a cocktail shaker, combine the bourbon, lemon juice, orange bitters, and 2 tablespoons of the chai syrup. Shake!
Strain into a glass. Add sparkling water to taste, then garnish with cinnamon and star anise.
